Generation Earth

A total of 20 schools from around Johannesburg attended the event to discuss the Green Economy in preparation for the Generation Earth Summit next year.

The day aimed to get youth to talk about their role, discuss problems and collaborate on solutions in the fields of energy, water, green buildings, sustainable waste, transport and green jobs which all form part of the framework of the government’s Green Economy Policy.

Experts from different industries were invited to guide, challenge and inform the high school pupils and university students at the event. AA Papageorgiou Architects shared their expertise on green buildings and the built environment. GridCars’ Winstone Jordaan dealt with transport and infrastructure.

Riso Africa and Eskom handled the clean energy and energy efficiency workgroup. Earth Probiotics guided the sustainable waste management group, and Dr Inga Jacobs from the Water Research Commission of South Africa headed the water management group.

GreenMatter’s Chantal Kotze tackled the green jobs topic.
