As you know (well, we hope) Mandela Day is coming up (on July 18) and as you may know this is an Internationally celebrated day that's all about you (and me) giving 67 minutes of your (our) time towards a humane act, a kind deed or a service to humanity. And of course you know that that's what Cheesekids is all about, all year round!
 
Cheesekids, Making Every Day a Mandela Day
 
So, as happens every year around this time, Cheesekids puts together an awesome array of community service projects to get you involved in that are fun and easy to join just for Mandela Day.   

We're holding our Mandela Day Festivities on Sunday 17th July 2011 (the day just before Madiba's birthday) between the hours of 8:30am and 4:30pm. In Johannesburg we follow this up with an After-Party concert with an incredible line-up to match the awesome expanse of goodness the day will bring.
This year, we're going to accommodate 6,700 volunteers at 15 different projects including:
 
* Building houses for dwellers of informal settlements
* Painting, gardening and beautifying schools of underprivileged and disabled children
* Providing vocational guidance and inspirational chats with high school children
* A hackerthon for application developers to develop educational tools & utilities
* A cook-out for food to be distributed to homeless shelters
* A kiddie-zone to play with and spoil children from various orphanages
* Planting vege-gardens at homeless shelters and orphanages
* A sports clinic to teach kiddies your sporting skills
