Feb 2011
the get-up and stretch edition
2010 in 20/20
So dju recall what 2010 was like for Cheesekids? One of the things the Guardians have been busying ourselves with is a 2010 report and pictorial, which are due at the end of Feb. Both booklets will remind us of the fun we had when:
* we launched Cape Town
* we Lurved Mandela Day with 2,000 of you...
* we supported the class of 2010
* we helped our brethren in Haiti, and in informal settlements racked by shack fires and floods...

Needful things
2 weeks ago our media sponsor of 2010, 5fm, had a staff gig and the entrance fee was 5 items of materials that Cheesekids will need this year. It was a fantastic event and raised nearly R 10,000 worth of materials. Thanks again, as always! We reckon we may do it again for other gigs or simply keep the list up so you'll know what to get if you're ever feeling gifty... click here to see 3,000 items that we'll need in 2011
Last Calls
We closed off the last year on a high note raising around R 8,000 at SingOFF. We bought and collected and packed some kiddie pressies and toys for Christmas so thanks to everyone who contributed. We also collected 2 truck-
loads of care-packs for flood victims in Alex & Orlando. We'll thank you, but isn't it cool that the City of Jo'burg does too. Look here...
Pass it this Way
Jan came with the chaos of Varsity registrations and job applications. We've gotten our fair share of requests to help. So we've put together a puffenpass email hotline. You simply join and anytime you have a lead on scholarships, or vacancies you send it there. If you've got a request that someone else may be able to help with you send it there. Basically those emails of opportunity you circulate amongst your friends. So let's make the circle beega. pls join the puffenpass group and help someone without leaving your desk. power neh?

Hello dear friends!

A horse walks into bar and the barman asks "why the long face?" Perhaps the poor sod hadn't had Cheese in a while but as you can see the Cheese is back! Boom! Our first event for 2011 kicks off in just over a week; it being Valentine's month and all we figured it was a good time to kick off spreading the love this year. In case you're wondering we spent much of Jan tinkering with Santa's little elves who'd stayed after spending Christmas with us. The admin demands of this here little movement have grown as we've grow bigger and older. As a four-year old this year, Cheesekids is fully potty-trained and still runs around a lot but is spending more time in the classroom... yep we're hitting schools in a big way; our theme for the year is Excellence, and we have three programmes to help us drive it. Check below to see what else we have to look forward to this year.

If you didn't know it, today is World Cancer Day. Many of us sadly have tales of woe wrought on by Cancer but we
reckon don't just spare a thought for the folks being mowed down by it, but be sure to do your body searches, eat right and keep looking after you, you're the only you we've got.
Lastly, on a love tip, we're lurving the new Love Your South Africa / Hood campaign by the IEC and urge you all to make sure you register to vote this weekend in the upcoming municipal election. Hop onto the IEC website for details or call 0800 11 8000 to find out how and where to register. Why the schlep? Coz Freedom isn't free. Ergo Cairo.

And on that note, we wish our former pres and the world's favourite Freedom fighter good health in bucket loads. Halala Madiba Halala!
Enjoy your love month,

What's new & what's happening in 2011

In the year of Excellence we're launching a Cheesekit programme for us to give vocational guidance, drawing on our own experiences. We have an induction briefing on Thurs 17th to lead into our inaugural Cheesekit event on Sat 26th.

We're also launching an Excellence Exam Tutoring programme for Matrics & Std 9s for 12 weeks in May/June and another 12 weeks in Nov/Dec.

We're gonna stare down winter with a Displacement Camp to raise funds for our Soup Kitchens taking place every Sunday throughout Winter. Click here to check out all of our programmes.

In 2009 we did the first Mandela Day with 100 of you, last year we did with 2,000. Look out for our Mandela Day event in July because it's gonna be like that old corn chip commercial... so beeg, so beeg, so very very beeg!

Finally, Cheesekids is going to collaborate with more student societies, and more NGOs and youth movements this year as we'd like you all to have as many options for finding expression in community service as possible. We'll keep coming up with great events to make giving as fun as nature intended.

Click here to read more... And look out for the Cape Town and Durban schedules being posted this month. Booyah!
