Cheesekids for Humanity ("Cheesekids") is a youth-oriented community service platform, encouraging young South Africans of privilege to individually contribute regularly to the upliftment and empowerment of our more marginalised communities.

That's what our corporate profile says. In plain English, that means Cheesekids is simply a volunteer movement. Founded in 2007 Cheesekids organizes events and activities where young people like you volunteer their time, labour, and creativity towards various needs identified in local townships and informal settlements.

So if kids are hungry at school, we try and figure out a smart way and sustainable way of fixing the problem without throwing money at it... makes sense neh?

The birth of Cheesekids... Winter 2007

To date hundreds of our ever-growing base of 4,000 volunteers have built, plastered and painted houses; cleaned-up schools; washed orphans' clothes; picked up litter; fed and clothed the homeless, indigent and abused; planted vege-gardens and de-weed lawns; read to, played and given smiles to kids across Soweto, Thembisa, Alexandra, Diepsloot, Mamelodi, inner-city Johannesburg, Orange Farm, Khayalitshe and many other places of desolation across SA.

The bulk of Cheesekids are from middle-income and upper families, posses varsity degrees or are professionals, and all are proponents of Cheesekids' driving that all of us have a responsibility towards the making SA great, and those with more, have more to contribute, specifically in time and creativity. Founded by young people for young people, the Cheesekids movement is easy to join, very interactive and proud of being able to offer young South Africans an accessible platform to doing good, like our mamas taught us.

Cheesekids is not a clique, it's an ethos...

The Cheesekids movement embraces and promotes initiates of individuals aligned to the movement. Through it's work Cheesekids has developed catchments for many opportunities for contribution and excels in marrying the wanting with giving parties interested in fulfilling that particular need. To this end Cheesekids facilitates the adoption of creches and old-age homes by various Cheesekids and affiliates. In this way Cheesekids hopes to broaden the pool of collective and individual action to counter the abject poverty and destitution that necessitates our movement. At its core the Cheesekids movements calls for and encourages civil action and community participation amongst South Africa's youth.

That's another excerpt from our corporate profile - And that simply means: Tell us what you wanna do to make SA and this world better and we'll do it with you... together.

Joining is a piece of cake. Would-be volunteers (typically aged 18 - 38, but we'll accept any age!) simply register to join our mailing list and then show up when notifed. Events are held regularly and updates on other affiliated activities are also regularly dispatched. There are no attendance obligations and once someone is on the mailing list they remain so (unless specifically requesting to opt-out) regardless of how often they attend. Nice neh?

Each event ends of at a local Chisanyama or as we call em Cheese-n-nyama (Braai spot) where we celebrate another glorious day of giving over sleeping. i.e. Come as and when you want to. And bring a friend, its gonna be fun.

If this sounds like your cup of tea then join today, and if you're already a member pat yourself on the back - you built this. Lurv it!
