AMAZING GRACE (CHILDREN'S HOME)
AMAZING GRACE (CHILDREN'S HOME)
On Saturday 20/08/2011, off we went to Amazing Grace in Kibler Park. This Home was one of our Cheesekids Mandela Day beneficiaries, and as part of this month's Fix-it campaign, we thought it important to return there and finish off the incredible work that commenced at this event. Those who happily reported for duty were: Debbie, Kagi, Xoli, Nadia, Lindile, Palesa, Jenny, Gontse, Dale, Jason, Alice, Peane and myself of-course (Sarah) ,and under the watchful eye of Bantse- "Slim cheese", our Team Leader for the day, we all set out to paint the outside play area. Our mandate was to make it as bright and colourful as possible. Once this task had been completed, we then moved to the veggie garden, which was in serious need of attention. As overwhelming as the second task seemed (the garden had big pieces of barren land, in urgent need of some sort of veggie-planting-intervention), Bantse ever the perfectionist was there urging us to keep our eyes on the end goal, and reminding us that despite the scorching heat, giving up was just not an option. I guess it really is true when they say that "dynamite comes in small packages". Not only did Bantse motivate us to keep going, she also lead by perfect example by getting her hands dirty and working up quite a sweat. After successfully planting onions, beetroot, carrots and cabbage, we were all in agreement that lunch was in order, so off we went to Tinti's restaurant and Chisanyama in Naturena, where we were also able to watch the Boks give the All Blacks a well deserved hiding. Now what more could an avid Boks supporter ask for. Bonding and getting to know one another was so awesome, that the conversation carried on well into the night. Yet another day well spent ala Cheesekids.
Not only were we able to get some painting as well as gardening done, but plenty of clothing, bedding, toys and yogurt was also donated. To this end a hearty thank you goes out to ALL those who made this happen.
