A Tale of 2 Fires; A Call to Aid!

Some weeks ago an aunt to one of our Guardians, Sade, lost her home in a fire in Pietermaritzburg. And two nights ago 19 families lost their homes to a shack fire in Alexandra township. These are two respective tales of woe that we'd like to call on you to help rectify. Here in the pained words of Sade and an urgent SMS from Joburg Emergency Services lie the tale of two fires that have devastated lives.

 

Sade: "My aunt was recently a victim of arsonists who burnt her entire house down and she now faces the daunting challenge of rebuilding her house. Unfortunately she was not insured and has lost virtually everything. They are currently living in the remains of their burnt down house as they have nowhere else to go during these cold winter months. We are in need of donations of any building materials so that we can rebuild and refurbish her home and give her back her dignity. 

 

Joburg EMS: "19 Shacks burnt down at No 91 on 17th Avenue at around 10pm on Saturday night, leaving 37 people with nothing! Please assist...."

 

We will be receiving donations of building materials (bricks, mortar, corrugated iron), food, clothing, places of shelter, bedding as well as monetary donations. Please mail [email protected] or contact Sade on 0828521653 to arrange a drop-off or a deposit.
