Mandela day
On sunday the 18th of July, South Africa celebrated Mandela day where we were urged to give 67 minutes of our time doing community service. I decided to go and help paint Nkosi's Haven in Berea Johannesburg, an orphange which was opened on the 14th of April 1999 in honour of Nkosi Johnson, an AIDS activist and little boy who lost his battle with Aids in June 2001. When he was 2 years old, He was adopted by Gail Johnson who cared for Nkosi until he passed away. She now cares for many Orphans living with the disease. The house they live in needed a good paint job so a whole lot of volunteers came through to the orphanage and we painted away. It is now beautiful and full of colour. Being there on sunday was such an amazing experience as we got to do something for someone else as well as interact with the kids. It was a great initative by Cheesekids and i want to thank them from the bottom of my heart for doing what they did. They changed many lives in the space of a few hours. Well done.
